CoolSculpting - Fat Cells - Pollutants?

Question

I keep hearing that pollutants are stored in our fat cells. If you loose a lot of weight at once while breastfeeding for example, the pollutants may go into your milk. So what happens with CoolSculpting and all those pollutants? Do they just stay in the fat cell and leave your body too? Is this a dumb question or a real concern? Thanks!

Our body does store toxins and pollutants in fat. However, that is no reason to hold onto fat! Whether you are losing weight, or contouring an already fit body with CoolSculpting, dead fat cells and their contents are filtered through the liver, where toxins are removed and excreted. With CoolSculpting, an extra benefit is that when the fat cells are frozen, they basically collapse upon themselves rather than explode. Therefore, they do not really release their contents. Whatever was inside them remains there until they are filtered through the liver and eliminated. Be sure to consult a board-certified dermatologist who is certified by Zeltiq to find out if you are a candidate for contouring your body with CoolSculpting.

Hi njmatsche.  There are no studies to provide a definitive answer.  What is known is that the frozen/dead fat cells are eliminated by normal pathways.  Since the cells are not exploding and releasing their contents, it is likely that the "pollutants" stay within the shriveled up/dead cell.  Our liver is responsible for detoxification of toxins, so if there was any release from the cell, your body should be able to handle them through this normal route.  Be sure to see a certified CS provider with advanced training through Coolsculpting University for your treatments.

Thank you for your question. The good thing about CoolSculpting is that it’s not only non-invasive and non-surgical, but is extremely safe as well. In fact the dead cells are eliminated by our body’s lymphatic drainage system. Since they are not active cells, they are more likely to be like pollutants. The liver is responsible for detoxification of toxins, so if there was any release from those cells the body should be able to handle them through the drainage system. What a great question! After CoolSculpting freezes and kills fat cells, the cells are broken down and eliminated through the lymphatic system, where any toxins are filtered by the liver. Remember that CoolSculpting treats small areas of stubborn fat and can only remove 20% to 30% of fat at a time. Even if toxins were released when the cells are destroyed (and there is no evidence that this process releases any toxins), they would be eliminated by the body, just as we are constantly eliminating the toxins that we are exposed to on a daily basis. Hi njmatsche, thanks for your excellent question.  The good news is that CoolSculpting is not only non-invasive and non-surgical, but is extremely safe as well.  One of the great things about Coolsculpting is that when the cells die, they simply shrivel up and get slowly removed by the lymphatic drainage system over a period of 3 months.  The contents of the cells gets completely eliminated and any toxins would be filtered by the liver.  It is important to also understand that this is a not a vehicle for weight loss.  20-25% of the fat is removed from each area that is treated with CoolSculpting. Under no circumstances would this be equated to losing a lot of weight. You are safe with CoolSculpting.  We have treated hundreds for women who are in the breast feeding stage with amazing results, and there have beenno  instances of toxins being released and causing problems.  Just check with your physician before treating with  Coolsculpting, and I think you will love the experience.

That is a fabulous question.  There are many pollutants that are fat soluble and can be stored in fat.  One of the differences between CoolSculpting and laser or ultrasound fat removal is that with CoolSculpting, fat loss is a natural process.  The injured fat cells are programed to shut down and then are eaten up by our own disposal cells over a period of 6-12 weeks and the waste is contained and then safely discarded via the lymph system.  The other techniques blast apart the cells, releasing toxins immediately into your system which can cause toxicity.  The majority of cancer causing toxins are located in the visceral fat inside the abdomen and not affected by CoolSculpting.  This fat is best lost with nutritional guidance and exercise.  Good luck!
