Constipation after CoolSculpting. What can I do?

Hi! A week ago I had this procedure done and while I can deal with the bloating, I am so constipated. I have not gone in 4 days. I am getting worried and I have tried everything. Coffee, fiber, cafffeine and Metamucil. What can I do? I am really nervous-is this normal?

Hi Sarahb212. Can't think of a mechanism that would connect constipation to coolsculpting in general. Talk to your provider.  Natural remedies for constipation involve magnesium (400-600 mg by mouth) is pretty effective.  You would probably benefit from probiotics, some glutamine and aloe to soothe an irritated intestinal lining, and you should increase your plant based dietary choices, in additional to traditional remedies of drinking lots of water.

Your constipation is unrelated to your recent CoolSculpting treatment. You should treat it with over the counter products such as Colace or Milk of Magnesia and increasing your fluids. If these remedies don't work you should follow up with your doctor.

It is not normal to have constipation after a CoolSculpting procedure.  If you have not already done so, I would contact the physician who treated you to discuss your problem.  If your treating physician cannot help, you should be able to be referred to someone who can.

Thanks for your question and as others have noted, this is not related to your CoolSculpting procedure.  You should call your medical doctor and get the constipation taken care of by him or her.

This is not a common occurance after coolsculpting. You should call your physician who performed the procedure to discuss your symptoms. He/she should be able to advise you.

Hi sarahb212, thank you for your question.  CoolSculpting is a very safe, non-invasive and non-surgical procedure that yields smooth, natural looking and permanent results. The only normal side effects are: numbness, tingling, slight bruising, and occasionally some pins and needles type of feelings.  Constipation is not a normal or expected side effect.  I would recommend talking with your treating physician to see if they can help you with this issue, or recommend someone who can.

Feeling bloated after coolsculpting on the abdomen can happen as each individual reacts to the procedure (and or the anxiety or stress) differently.  Returning to normal activities and exercise, and increasing water intake after the procedure normally helps prevent constipation or bloating.  I would also follow up with office where you had the procedure.  Anxiety and stress also can play apart of constipation, possible help may come from yogurt or something with pre/post biotics may be beneficial.  Contact your primary care physician if the problem continues.  Hope you enjoy your Coolsculpting results very shortly.
