Had stage one invassive lobular carcinoma breast cancer and had a lumpectomy 5 months ago. Had radiation for a month and am looking into breast augmentation. I did one online consultation and they said i could not have the surgery at all because my oncologist has me taking tamoxifen for 5 yrs. I dont want to wait 5 yrs to fix my breasts. Cant i just stop taking the medicine 2-3 weeks prior to surgery? Is that an option?

Answer: Breast implant surgery after lumpectomy Hello, Thank you for the question. It is typically recommended to wait a full year prior to undergoing breast implant surgery after lumpectomy with radiation. Regarding tamoxifen, I would discuss your questions and concerns with you Breast Surgeon, since Tamoxifen is not a direct contraindication for performing breast implant surgery. In addition, fat grafting may be used to add more upper pole fullness and breast volume. I hope this helps.Best regards, Dr. Karanetz Dr. Irena KaranetzBreast Fellowship-TrainedBoard Certified Plastic Surgeon
