From my front and side profile I have a weak chin and the crease under my lip is super deep. What procedures would be best to enhance the jaw and fix this. A reduction with an implant? A genioplasty etc.

Answer: Complex Mandible issues It appears that you have both deficiency and excess on different parts of your mandible. I’m guessing that the body of your mandible (segment behind your teeth) is deficient in projection and size, while the mentalis (chin) has excessive forward projection. I suggest consulting with oral surgeons in your community who have extensive experience with cranial facial assessment and mandibular surgery. I think you’ll find those for the oral surgery background to have an upper edge in comparison to those with plastic surgery training unless the plastic surgeon has completed craniofacial fellowship training with lots of hands-on experience. I don’t think you’re going to find simplistic procedures, like implants or fillers to give you the outcome you’re hoping for. Whether surgery is indicated or desirable decision is something quite personal. Any successful surgical outcome always begins with an accurate assessment and a good solid, working diagnosis. That alone, requires a much more in-depth assessment with a physical examination and possible radiological evaluation. This type of work is a bit outside of what I do on a regular basis. I’m reluctant to give you any recommendations, but would steer you towards providers with an oral surgery background as the most probable best providers for equality assessment. Good luck, Mats Hagstrom, MD
