How long does chin implant infection last?

Question

I (24) male had a chin augmentation surgery one year ago. Sadly my implant got infected and had pus oozing out. My surgeon cleaned it and removed the infection lump . It's been 1 month since I got it cleaned and pus still keeps oozing out and I got it cleaned once again and situation hasn't improved since. My surgeon suggested anti biotics and anti bacterial tube. Should I get a second opinion or will the infection get cured?

Hello, hope you are well. Thank you for posting your questions here. Have you had the implant removed already? It should be removed if it still remains in place. If it has been removed, a wound culture can be taken to find out the bacterial organism that is causing the infection. This will help to determine which antibiotic is best to help your body eliminate the infection.

If you’ve had an infection for over a year than something is definitely wrong and you need to get a formal assessment.
If you’re not getting the care you need from your current provider, then I suggest getting second opinion consultations.
You can do this with plastic surgeons, facial plastic surgeons, oral surgeons.
At this point, you probably need an MRI to make sure you don’t have osteomyelitis.
Typically intraoral infections should heal quite quickly if the foreign body has been removed.
I suggest you get a complete copy of your entire medical record and bring that with you for an in person second opinion consultation.
