Hello doctors! My procedure is in a few days and I am so nervous. :/ He is using tumescent lipo. I'm so afraid of complications from the solution! Though I haven't heard of any...just an irrational fear. Anyways, any tips and/or words of encouragement are appreciated!
Answer: Nervous about chin lipo It is totally normal to be nervous (I know I would be a little and I'm a plastic surgeon!). That being said awake chin liposuction is one of the easiest/least painful things out there. Because the area is small it numbs up fast and then the liposuction part is over fast. While there are risks with any procedure the risk of a complication from the tumescent solution is extremely low. I have done thousands of tumescent liposuction cases and never seen a serious complication from the medication. More over, the amount of tumescent fluid that is needed for a chin is very small so the risk is even less. One side effect of the medication that is worth noting is that if the solution spreads down below the muscle layer and soaks the marginal mandibular nerve (it runs along the jawline) it can make the corner of your mouth a little crooked for a few hours. It is temporary and goes back to normal by the next day or sooner.Good luck, You'll do great!

Answer: Safety of tumescent liposuction I appreciate your concern, but as long as you are working with a board-certified physician with expertise in chin liposuction, your procedure should go very well. The tumescent technique is one of the safest and most effective, and risks associated with the tumescent solution are extremely low. You might want to talk to your doctor about your concerns before your procedure. Perhaps by discussing it with your doctor, you will feel more at ease. I wish you all the best.

Answer: Almost a no downside to liposuction of the chin. Liposuction of the chin and neck is easily performed with local anesthesia aided by tumescent preparation of the fat. Patients can go immediately back to work. The worst problem I have had is that the occasional patient doesn't get as much improvement as they desire.

Answer: Unfounded fear It sounds like you have a baseline anxiety disorder. Talk to your primary care doctor about this and ask them to refer you to a psychiatrist. Everybody has some underlying anxiety in regards to medical procedures but yours sounds more than normal. There’s plenty of information of exercises or treatments people can do who suffer from anxiety. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
