Hello. I am doing a chin lipo and rhinoplasty in 2weeks. Would I benefit from a chin implant or my profile is balanced enough ?
Answer: Chin implant paired with rhinoplasty Thank you for your question regarding pairing a chin implant with you rhinoplasty and liposuction and for including photos. That is super helpful! From the photos you shared, it looks like you would be a great candidate for a chin implant to create more balance. To be sure, see two or more experienced, licensed and board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment. I hope this helps.

Answer: Things you should know about rhinoplasty Thank you for your question and photos. Since you’re already scheduled to undergo chin liposuction and a rhinoplasty procedure, I would consider a full recovery from these procedures before looking into further augmentation. It’s possible that these procedures alone will balance your facial proportions and help you achieve your aesthetic goals. When recovering from a rhinoplasty procedure, it's important to remember that the nose can continue to shift in shape and alignment throughout the following year, with much of the swelling being reduced within the first four months. I recommend scheduling an in-person consultation with an experienced, board-certified facial plastic surgeon with expertise in rhinoplasty techniques who can oversee your surgery and recovery phase.

Answer: Rhinoplasty and Chin Implant Good Afternoon! Great question. A rhinoplasty which reduces the overall size of the nose will often balance better with a weaker chin. I tend to reserve chin implants at the same time as rhinoplasty for very weak chins - ones that will still need some form of correction. In your photos, you appear to have an appropriate to mildly weak chin. I would undergo the rhinoplasty first and re-evaluate. Adding a chin implant later is a much smaller procedure. Hope this helps!

Answer: Would at chin implant and a rhinoplasty help me achieve a more balanced look? The side profile photographs demonstrate an overly projecting nose, and an under projecting chin. Consider a closed rhinoplasty to decrease the overall projection of the nose, shave down the dorsal hump, and reduce the hanging columella with all the incisions placed on the inside of the nose.No painful packing is required. Placement of a small chin implant can accomplish augmenting your chin forward which will help your side profile balance and proportions, especially with respect to Your nose. Both procedures can be performed together under one anesthesia with one recovery.

Answer: Assessing and augmenting the mandible Your mandible is small in relationship to your maxilla and this amplifies the projection of your nose. The size issue with your mandible is not necessarily in the mentalis region or the chin but rather in the body of the mandible. While augmenting the mandible would benefit it’s not necessarily the tip of the chin that needs advancement but further back. Most likely you’ll have an overbite occlusion because of the mandibular insufficiency. Jaw advancement is probably a more correct approach. Getting a proper assessment and choosing the correct procedure should not be done in a hurry or in haste. I suggest having multiple in person consultations with local oral surgeons as well as plastic surgeons in your community. A formal evaluation of your facial skeletal structure should include all aspects and a thorough understanding of where deficiencies are. Augmenting the chin when the chin has sufficient projection creates which is chin and deep labiomental angle. Since you’re having surgery you can also discuss this with your plastic surgeon. Ideally patients should have their surgical plan thought through well and thoroughly with plenty of time and not make last-minute changes. All of this should be included during a thorough comprehensive consultation. Assessments a facial anatomy are not straightforward and simple and providers don’t always get them right let alone people without formal training. For that reason I recommend patients have multiple consultations with highly experienced and talented providers in appropriate fields. In this case I would consult with both oral surgeons and plastic surgeons. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
