Would I have to re-pierce a septum piercing if I had rhinoplasty? (Photo)

question. Rhinoplasty surgery can be a
complicated surgery, and it is hard to answer your question without an exam and
further discussion about what your goals are, and 3D imaging.My frank opinion is that if you are
considering rhinoplasty surgery, whethere or not you will need to repierce your
septum should be a more minor concern.Achieving your surgical expectations, healing well, and ensuring
stability to your entire nose would be the primary goal.Your surgeon may be able to repierce it in
the future once everything has healed well if the mucosa is interrupted with a
septoplasty or you need cartilage grafts, etc.If you have a minor surgery that
does not need to interrupt this are of the nose, then it is possible that the

Dear ManicBabyIn general, the piercing of the septum can be left alone, however, only the surgeon performing the surgery can answer that in your specific case. For access to your dorsum, the area of your piercing is generally not incised.

The worst thing a Surgeon can do is to compromise his surgical techniques. The goal for any Rhinoplasty is to achieve the best possible result. Just removing the hump is not realistic without addressing the associated changes that it will produce in the rest of the nose. Therefore, all aspects of the nose in my opinion must be addressed and if your septal piercing is in the way it must go. After a period of time if you a re convinced that re-piercing is essential- you may proceed. 

It's unlikely a rhinoplasty would affect the nasal septal piercing. The device could be reinserted several days after the operation.

 Unfortunately, the incisions to gain access to the nose are directly where the piercing is located. To avoid an infection or cyst formation of the nose,  the previous piercing hole should be removed, and  the nose can be re- pierced several months  after the procedure.

It really depends on the exact position of the piercing. Quite often the piercing is positioned where one of the internal incisions ends, and it that case it may be impossible to preserve it. Even if the hole can be preserved, you should discuss with your surgeon the use of a retainer, to make sure that it won't close over the several days after the rhinoplasty when you won't be able to keep the piercing in place.

Depending on exactly what will be done during your procedure the piercing may not be interrupted. Clarify with your surgeon before surgery.
