Rhino a month ago. Swelling has subsided well, my new nose is fine. But I feel my whole face has changed- I don't recognise my eyes, my smile etc. I'm not talking about finding it hard to smile (it's not). I mean I see a totally different, less attractive face in the mirror. My nose was long & pointy with visible grooves from cartilage. Now it's shorter, a bit rounder& more regular/smooth. Is it common to feel this way? I think the whole character of my face has changed & I don't like it.
Answer: Rhinoplasty post-op Hello and thank you for your question. I am sorry to hear about your concerns. It is very normal to be swollen at the 1 month postoperative period. The dorsal aspect of the bridge of the nose will usually decrease earlier than the nasal tip swelling. Nasal tip swelling can sometimes take 6-12 months to fully resolve. I advise patients that the final result of rhinoplasty takes 12 months. I recommend that you return to see your surgeon, as he/she will have a good idea of what to expect in regards to your specific progress, since they can evaluate you in relation to your preoperative appearance.Best wishes and good luck

Answer: Unhappy after rhinoplasty Dysphoria, or mood change, after rhinoplasty or any plastic surgery procedure is not unusual. This is going to require time and patience on your part. Sometimes taping and small doses of a drug called a beta-blocker can help you get through this difficult post-operative period. Stay in close communication with your surgeon and when the time is appropriate, he or she may refer you to a respected colleague for a second opinion. For that consultation be prepared to bring photographs from before surgery, operative report(s) and any imaging studies that might have been done.

Answer: Rhinoplasty Thank you for the question and YES sometimes for a while patients do not recognize themselves following surgery. A rare number may even seek to have the procedure reversed but if you nose has improved through surgery, in short order you will become comfortable with your new look.Dr. Corbin

Answer: Don't Recognize Myself 1 Month after Rhinoplasty One month after surgery you are still early in the healing process. Depending on the goals of the operation and what was done during the procedure some patients may have prolonged swelling which could be a reason for your concern. Be patient and discuss this with your surgeon.

Answer: Rhinoplasty Concerns Dear Nazirdebruja, During consultation I perform digital imaging on my patients allowing them to see the proposed changes and how these look with their facial aesthetics so there are no surprises. It is important to keep the patients ethnicity and facial anatomy into consideration during surgery so that the final outcome is a natural looking nose that enhances the patients other features and balances their facial aesthetics. Keep in mind that you are early in the post operative phase and you should settle into the changes shortly. If you have any concerns speak with your surgeon so he/she can give you some peace of mind throughout the recovery process. Typically the day of the splint removal is a very exciting time for both the patient and the surgeon alike. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
