Hi! I am having a BA in a couple of weeks. I am 5'7" 120lbs with a pretty thin rib cage. My PS and I decided on 400cc HP Silicone Mentor implants. I have spoken with a couple girls with similar builds as me, and they explained that during surgery they had planned for one size, but the PS found that their pockets needed something smaller(e.g. Wanting 425cc but getting 400cc instead). Do all PS order extra implants just in case? What if during surgery they decide I need a smaller size?
Answer: Do surgeons always have extra implant sizes on hand during surgery? I typically order extra implants of the size requested just in case there is an issue once the two implants have been opened. That being said, I do my very best to honor a particular patient’s request so that I place the implant size requested.I wish you the best of luck.

Answer: Do surgeons always have extra implant sizes on hand during surgery? Great question. You never want to be in a situation when under general anesthesia, and not have the right size implant. It should be the first question you ask your plastic surgeon. Do you have a consignment with a company, and do you have extra implants on site? While it should already be decided what size implant you are going to have the day of surgery, some patients change their mind last minute. I have a testimonial of a patient that did just that, changed her mind the day of surgery on the size of the implant. Luckily, we have a consignment and were able to accommodate her the day of her surgery. I hope this helps with answering your question. Good luck with your surgery!

Answer: Multiple implants available Most plastic surgeons have a range of implants available, but through proper preoperative planning, have the size/ style narrowed down to a pretty small window. I usually have two different sizes I believe will do the job we need it to and then try them both during surgery to see what looks the best and fits the best. I hope this helps.

Answer: Do surgeons always have extra implant sizes on hand during surgery? Practice will vary greatly; therefore, you will be best of asking this question of your chosen plastic surgeon. In our practice, breast implant size/profile is determined after the use of intraoperative sizer's. Therefore, we have the entire range of breast implant sizes/profiles (available from two different breast implant manufacturer) available to us. This allows for selection of the best breast implant size/profile to fit the specific patient's dimensions, as closely as possible (after viewing the patient in the upright and supine positions). The patient's goal photographs and computer imaging are hanging on the wall as references. Best wishes with your upcoming operation.

Answer: Not everyone carries extra implants... Personally, I have an entire cabinet of implants in my operating room, so different sizes aren't hard to come by. But that's because I have my own surgery suite. If you are going to a hospital or surgery center for surgery, they may only bring the pair they are intending you use. Just ask your surgeon. There usually is little need to deviate from an original plan. I usually would have 2 different sizes available close in size (maybe 385cc and 415cc) -- both are acceptable for her frame. My last question to the patient is "are you afraid of being too big or too small when I'm done?" If their answer is too small, I use the bigger implant. Good luck!
