I am planing to have Rhinoplasty in the wintertime, because I was thinking that the cold temperatures would help with the swelling to go down a little faster. Now I am a little worried, that I might catch a cold in the healing progress, because I often have a running nose in the winter for weeks. Would it be better to wait with surgery till summer?

Dear pjaz96
Thanks for the question. Rhinoplasty is used to correct malformation in the nose, including asymmetry. A rhinoplasty may even be medically necessary if your nasal asymmetry affects your breathing. Cheek and chin augmentation are the most effective procedures for correcting severe...
It is very normal to not have taste/smell postoperatively for up to 6 weeks. The swelling on the inside of your nose impedes air flow which impedes smell and taste. This is very similar to having a cold, where you cannot smell and taste. It will improve. :)
I think that you can probably get close to that nose. I think that a natural look and smooth transitions are key. I perform closed rhinoplasty to minimize scarring.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA
