I put the majority of my patients asleep for liposuction, especially for hi definition procedures. I suggest you see an expert for treatment. Best, Dr. Emer.
For smaller areas and lower volumes of fat removal, local anesthesia may be used. However, for larger volumes of fat removal or more invasive procedures, general anesthesia (being “put to sleep”) is preferred.
The answer to your question is yes. Plastic surgeons have different preferences, but in most all situations I would recommend general anesthesia to my patients for liposuction unless only a very small area is being done. I feel there is better control of the airway, and I can concentrate on performing excellent surgery without concerns for my patients discomfort during the procedure.
Thank you for your question. Yes you can be placed asleep for just liposuction and in many cases this is a preferred method to ensure patient comfort and safety.
Thank you for your question. It is common to receive either Local anesthesia with oral sedation or general anesthesia for liposuction. Please consult with a board certified plastic surgeon in your area who specializes in body contouring procedures. Good luck.Dr. Dhaval M PatelHoffman estates, South Barrington, Oak brook, Naperville
Thank you for your question. It is common to receive either IV sedation or general anesthesia for liposuction. Please consult with a board certified plastic surgeon who specializes in body contouring procedures. Hope this helps and good luck.
For treating one area with liposuction, you may be asleep or awake, depending on your preference. Discuss with your surgeon.
Thank you for the question. In short, liposuction can be done under just local anaesthetic, light sedation and local or under a general anaesthetic. You should discuss the areas to be treated with a board certified plastic surgeon. He / she will give you the information you need to be able to make an informed decision about what type of anaesthesia would be best for the areas you are having treated and the amount of fat that is being removed.Regardless of the areas being treated, we can make it completely comfortable and quite an enjoyable experience. Ensure that you are going to a fully accredited surgical facility. All the best,Scott Barr, MD, FRCSC, Plastic Surgeon
Hi and thanks for your inquiry. Yes, some surgeons prefer general anesthesia for these procedures unless it is a very small area. As we commonly perform lipo in back, flanks, abdomen and this requires having the patient facing down with general anesthesia we have complete control of airway.Be sure to see a board certified plastic surgeon.Best wishes.Dr. Milla
Thank you for your question. Many patients are excited tolearn that there is a highly evolved technique that involves the use of a localanesthetic known as the “tumescent solution” to help anesthetize the targetedarea. Tumescent liposuction allows the patients to stay awake throughout theprocedure, and is much safer than general anesthesia because it reduces themajor risks of surgery.By injecting the tumescent fluid into the subcutaneous fat, thisallows the targeted area to become swollen and firm—making it easier to removefat cells. The diluted solution contains a local anesthetic as well as tinydoses of epinephrine to shrink capillaries and minimize blood loss. After localanesthetic with the tumescent fluid, the unwanted fat cells are suctioned outwith a microcannula, which is a small instrument with a blunt tip (like a Qtip), using a gentle back and forth motion. This instrument has advanced thisprocedure to help ensure a smooth recovery with minimal swelling, bruising, andfaster recovery with increased accuracy therefore minimizing irregularities. Ifthe patient prefers to be sedated this can be arranged.
Thank you for asking about your Nexplanon implant. The implant should be removed and a new one placed in a different area before your arm liposuction.Liposuction is very likely to damage and/or displace the implant. Always see a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. Best wishes - Elizabeth Morgan...

Dear msshelly84, it is completely normal to have swelling and pain six weeks after undergoing liposuction. Liposuction is an invasive procedure, so the swelling and pain are natural responses to parts of the body being surgically altered. Most patients will experience swelling and pain for up to...
