Thank you for your question. Its always best to check with your surgeon as everyone will have different protocols. I only place a compression tape on for 24 hours after surgery. All The Best
I generally ask patients to wear a "chin strap" 24/7 for one week and then just at night for the second week. That being said, for those patients who go back to work after a few days, I suspect that they do not wear the chin strap at work. The more you wear it, however, the better, since it makes the swelling go down more rapidly. best regards.
Facial masks and chin straps are sometimes used after facelift procedures to help reduce swelling. These are typically worn for 14 days after surgery. Their use and exactly how long they are worn are surgeon preference. Care must be taken to ensure proper fit and to avoid the development of creases and undue tension on the skin flaps in front of the ears. Also, patients don’t like to wear them. I no longer use them in my practice.
It is always best to check with your PS as every PS will give different advice. The garment needs to be comfortable though and I tend to recommend using it for the first week. If patients find the garment uncomfortable it is best not to persist with the garment.
After facelift surgery, surgeons may place a compression bandage, drain or both depending on their preference. The purpose is to reduce bruising, swelling and blood or fluid collections under the skin. The first night after surgery has the highest risk for developing a hematoma or bleeding under the skin. A hematoma will need to be drained and will lead to much more bruising. The wrap around dressing is usually removed the day after the surgery. An elastic/Velcro facial sling is then used for additional compression. Postoperative swelling may worsen the first few days and reach its peak on the third day. Compression and head elevation should help during this time period.
Dear personable,Thank you for your question. In my practice we recommend to wear a garmet for 5-7 days.
I recommend patients wear a wrap, like an ace wrap, to support the neck continuously for one week, and as much as they can stand it for the second week. Yet, I also tend to lift all the way across the neck to try to improve as much neck and under the chin laxity as I can at the time of surgery. The wrap supports the neck tissue in place, and helps to diminish swelling.
I would recommend wearing garment full time for about five days, though many patients like the feel of the garment and wear it longer. Be sure it is smoothed out and not too tight.
This is an excellent question and not one with an absolute correct answer. I ask that may patients wear a compressive garment for the first week as much as they can and then at night for the second week. I find that the edema subsides faster. Regardless of my preference, I would recommend you follow the protocol of the surgeon performing your surgery.
This will depend on your procedure, your surgeon's protocol, and how you are healing. There is no universal answer to this question, but usually a few days is recommended. Follow up with your surgeon so he can monitor your progress.
