How long after an open rhinoplasty surgery is it okay to drive?

  Dear eks7,  You can drive 2-3 days after surgery if you are off pain medications, you can see clearly (no swelling around the eyes and if you wear glasses, they sit properly on your face), you can maneuver the car safely (upper body, breast surgery) and you are not sick or nauseated. I usually have my patients avoid driving for about 10 days to two weeks, and they should not be taking any medications that can cause them to be drowsy.

Most patients are able to drive for the next day or 2 after the rhinoplasty, as long as they're not taking any pain medications. Most rhinoplasty procedures can  be accomplished with closed rhinoplasty approach, not open to avoid the external incision

The three day interval from the date of your rhinoplasty should be adequate with the precautions you mentioned. I might suggest you not try and drive four hours straight and take several rest stops along the way.

There would be no trouble with your plan to drive home as long as you stick with the plan of no driving on pain meds. If you are having osteotomies to move the bones you will almost certainly be on pain meds at 3-4 days postop.

Usually a Rhinoplasty is painless if done properly.  I do not do the open Rhinoplasties and my patients can drive the next day.  I wouldn't see any difference personally in driving second day after open Rhinoplasty if not taking pain medication.
