Eyelids swollen shut 3 days after facial fat grafting - should I be worried?

Question

I had full facial grafting (forehead, temples, nasolabial folds, cheeks, chin, lips, ) 3 days ago. Also had subcision for acne scars and Fractional CO2 laser on same day. Slept on my right side and my right eye became puffy the next day. By 3rd day both eyes are so puffy its hard to open them. But no pain or itch. The skin on the eyelids appear slightly red. It occurred gradually so doesn't look like drug allergy. Is this normal?

Its normal to have swollen eyes after co2 laser and fat grafting.  I suggest if you are concerned speak to your physician.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Eyelid swelling and facial swelling is common right after a procedure. Best to give it time to settle down.

Thank you for your question. Fat grafting can lead to substantial swelling and bruising. This will take time to settle. Sometimes you get asymmetry and lumpy areas which will also get better with time. This is the time for you to be patient.I recommend Arnica tablets and Arnica gel to reduce bruising for my patients.Hopefully your problem will settle and you will have the desired result.

Some swelling is normal but it may be better to contact your surgeon to determine if you need more evaluation.

Most patients undergoing full facial fat transfer with CO2 lasering well have substantial amount of swelling.there's no way any of us can tell you if anything is wrong or if all is as should be.I suggest close follow up with your treating physician.All of the procedures you describe can cause substantial swelling.Best,Mats Hagstrom M.D.
