Can cheek filler make eye trough more obvious? (Photo)

Can cheek filler make tear trough look more prominent? I had cheek filler twice (each time half syringe was injected each side). Each time I feel my tear trough look worse after about a week? Is it normal or common?

Thank you for your question and photograph.  Each person’s anatomy has variables but the cheek acts like a foundation for the lower eyelid complex.  For the majority properly placed cheek filler should improve the tear Trough and not make it more obvious.  As everyone is different there is the possibility that this delicate area may look deeper after cheek filler

Yes, cheek filler can make the hollowness under eyes (tear trough area) more obvious by comparison. Facial beauty has a lot to do balance/harmony in the face among different facial units/areas. The injector has to be aware of this fact.

The teartrough area is the most difficult area to treat with filler in my opinion.  It is less forgiving if the product is not put in precisely and more likely for the product to linger on with an unwanted swollen appearance.The result depends on the features of the person, thickness and quality of tissue, the defect, the product used, and the experience of the injector.  Nice results can be achieved, but I advise a conservative approach with a very experienced plastic surgeon.Thank you

Hey there thanks for the question! Jus tout of interest - what was the desired effect for you to have cheek fillers in the first place? you seem to have great volume in the cheeks already! If placed in the correct area cheek fillers can certainly improve the appearance of tear troughs too!

In many cases, treating the cheeks with filler can actually help the appearance of the undereyes. I would review your before/after photos and followup with your injector. If necessary, a small amount of an HA filler like Restylane could be injected into the tear troughs to reduce their appearance.

Thank you for your question!  Depending on where the filler was placed there is a chance that any depression under the eye is enhanced when contrasted to the protrusion of the cheek. We have seen this in patients that were deficient in volume under the eye. If your eye troughs are an area of concern you may be a candidate for filler in that area pending an assessment from an experienced practitioner.
