Just found out my a1c is 6.7. Could I still get my BBL? I’ve just started Metformin. Surgery is in 6 weeks for a BBL

Hello and thank you for your question. It sound like you are doing all the right things. As long as your diabetes is under control, you should be able to proceed with the surgery. It can take a couple of months to notice changes to your HbA1C. I would stick to your PCP recommendation and keep your plastic surgeon in the loop. Best,

Your board certified PS will require clearance (which you have already obtained) from the medical specialist who is prescribing Metformin to help control your A1C level. Your PCP has been cautiously watching your meds, diet, and exercise and has approved you for the BBL. The normal range for AlC is less than 5.7%; pre-diabetes range is 5.7 to 6.4%; diabetes, over 6.5%.
