Is it normal to have a drain for Chin Liposuction?

I don't typically leave in drains following neck liposuction. However, I almost always do so following a necklift. Trust your face to a board-certified facial plastic surgeon or a board-certified plastic surgeon with very extensive sub entail liposuction and necklift experience. Ask to see before and after photographs and consider obtaining second and third opinions before you make any decisions.

Although it is not common practice to place a drain after chin (or any other) liposuction, it may be that your doctor has found this to be advantageous to the overall result/healing process.  Glad to help.

For the right patient, chin / upper neck liposuction is a very worthwhile procedure.  It's relatively simple, and makes a very positive difference to those with a fuller neck but with reasonable to good skin tone.It's not routine to use a drain.  A light compression garment is routine. Using a drain would not be unreasonable or bad practice - it's just that most surgeons would I think find it unnecessary.All the very best.

In fact, there isn't a dressing either. At the conclusion of surgery, which is performed with a single-port, spatula-tip, 3 mm canula, we use elastic tape to hold neck skin in position. Using drains after liposuction is probably a rare preference but it's not questionable.  As long as you feel comfortable with your surgeon, he's shown you pictures of others, and has a good reputation, there's nothing wrong with the idea of a drain.  If you are unsure, ask to speak with another patient who has had it done and get their perspective.  Good Luck!

I'm not sure how one could even place a drain after liposuction of the neck. Nevertheless, never used one of my own practice.

It is
variable and doctor dependant on whether or not you leave a drain in. On most
occasions in our practice we do end up leaving a drain in so it can be
relatively normal. I would consult with your board-certified plast surgeon and follow his

I would not place a drain for chin liposuction but this does not mean that practice is incorrect. Alot of what an individual surgeon does is based on training and their unique experience. Your chosen surgeon might have found that placement of a drain creates the best possible results in their hands. If they do create natural, attractive results then that should be just fine. We routinely use drains in the neck when we perform a neck lift. A neck lift involves  elevating the skin in the submentum to remove fat and and drains are placed to prevent fluid/ blood accumulation in the neck. The neck lift is a more comprehensive removal of fat above and below the platysma muscle in the neck and  includes a platysma plasty procedure. When performing simple liposuction the neck drains are not required just a compression garment. For many examples, please see the link below

thank you for the question and this is a good one.I would say that a small drain placed for 24 hours or less is not a bad idea.  One more common complication that people have after chin liposuction would be fluid retention and a pocket of fluid that if unaddressed or untreated turns into knots or lumps of collagen that caused unevenness.If this is something your surgeon does regularly and they have a good reputation and track record then I would say it is fine.  In short, I don't find that suspicious or questionable.Chase Lay, MDDouble board-certified facial plastic surgeon
