My eyes are quite hooded and I often appear tired or upset I feel just because of their appearance. I also often have a tough time wearing eye makeup. Would I benefit from an upper blepharoplasty? Would this change the shape of my eyes in a dramatic way or just help to make me look less tired? Thank you for your advice.
Answer: We can tell you that you are beautiful and don't need surgery until we are blue in the face. Technically microblepharoplasty is useful to correct the upper fold resting on the eyelid platform. You show a very uniform upper eyelid platform. If these photographs accurately capture your appearance, surgery is not indicated. It is essential for you to understand that upper blepharoplasty removed upper eyelid fold. If this is done aggressively, it will destroy your beauty and essential youthful aesthetic. Similarly you nose is beautiful. Can you find a surgeon who will offer you surgery? I assure you that if you knock on enough doors, someone will operate on you. Because of how attractive you are, it is overwhelmingly likely that surgery will harm you rather than help you. A better question is what is motivating you to consider surgery? Are you embarrassed about your appearance? Do you find yourself thinking about these issues many hours a day? Are you avoiding social situations because you think people are making jokes about your appearance? These are signs of a psychological condition called body dysmorphic disorder. Working with a psychologist can help you gain insight about you thoughts.

Answer: Blepharoplasty The eyes are the windows to the soul. All too often, however, they seem to reveal exhaustion. The very delicate skin around the eyes tends to get crepey and puffy due to fatigue and stress. Eyelid surgery has become one of my most popular procedures. If excess upper eyelid skin is hooding the eye and needs to be eliminated, an incision is made in the crease at the top of the lid and excess fat and skin are removed. The incisions are closed and sutured on the underside of the skin. I suggest making an appointment with a board certified plastic surgeon who can explain in detail to you what your options are. An effective non-surgical option that might benefit you is Thermage, which can tighten the skin around the eyes. The new and improved Thermage is a virtually painless, non-invasive (no incision!) treatment that can tighten skin and stimulate your body to make healthier collagen—the building block that provides structure to your skin. Fast and easy, Thermage requires no downtime from normal activities.

Answer: Blepheroplasty or not Thank you for the question and picture.I would not recommend a blepheroplasty for you. Your upper lids are full and there is a well defined upper lid tarsal fold. Both of these features are desirable and a sign of youth. In your age group I would talk to you about Botox if you have not tried it yet. I would offer you a dynamic injection to elevate the brow.Talk to a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in your area.Best regards Nagi T Ayoub MD, FACS

Answer: Candidate for upper blepharoplasty The photographs demonstrate full upper eye lids, but the skin is not touching the eyelashes, so only a very minimal result would occur if you were to perform upper blepharoplasty. Probably best to leave well enough alone at this point.

Answer: Blepharoplasty at any age It is the appearance of your eyes and not your age that determines the need for a blepharoplasty. Most of the time, upper blepahroplasty is done to remove excess skin and fatty tissue. The photos you present don't really show a need for a blepharoplasty. You don't seem to have extra skin or bulging fat pads. I would sit down with a reputable cosmetic surgeon to discuss options that would make you feel better about your appearance.
