How long does nerve pain last from Vaser lipo? I had done this year and it’s lingering. I’ve heard it can take as long as 16 months in one example to subside. It’s a non stop pins/needles sensation. It hurts mainly when anything rubs against my skin. Thank you
Answer: The duration of nerve pain after Vaser Liposuction The duration of nerve pain after Vaser Liposuction can vary among individuals, and it's essential to recognize that everyone's healing process is different. Nerve pain is a common occurrence after liposuction, including Vaser Liposuction, due to the disruption of sensory nerves during the procedure. Here are some general considerations: Immediate Postoperative Period: In the immediate postoperative period, it's common to experience some degree of nerve pain, numbness, or discomfort. This is often temporary and can be attributed to the trauma caused to the nerves during the surgery. Early Weeks to Months: Nerve pain, tingling, or numbness may persist for several weeks to months after Vaser Liposuction. During this time, nerves are healing, and sensory function is gradually restored. Resolution Over Time: For many individuals, nerve-related symptoms tend to improve and resolve over time as the healing process progresses. The majority of patients experience a significant reduction in nerve-related symptoms within a few months of the procedure. Individual Variations: The duration and severity of nerve pain can vary based on factors such as individual healing capacity, the extent of the liposuction procedure, and the specific areas treated. Persistent Symptoms: In some cases, individuals may experience persistent nerve-related symptoms beyond the typical healing period. If you have concerns about prolonged nerve pain, it's crucial to communicate with your surgeon, who can assess your situation and provide guidance. It's important to follow your surgeon's postoperative care instructions, attend scheduled follow-up appointments, and report any unusual or concerning symptoms. In some cases, nerve-related symptoms may require additional interventions or treatments, and your surgeon will be best equipped to provide guidance based on your specific situation. If you're experiencing persistent or severe nerve pain, it's recommended to consult with your surgeon promptly for a thorough evaluation.

Answer: Nerve Pain After VASER Lipo Dear Sonjacarlin, Pain following Vaser liposuction can vary significantly from person to person and depends on various factors such as the extent of the procedure, your overall health status, your individual healing ability, and your pain tolerance. While most patients experience some degree of pain or discomfort for a few weeks after the procedure, in some cases it can last longer. The pins-and-needles sensation you're experiencing could be due to nerve irritation or regeneration as your body heals from the procedure. This is usually a temporary sensation, but it can indeed last for several months, as the nerves slowly regenerate. I recommend that you discuss this persistent pain with your plastic surgeon, as they may be able to provide treatments or solutions to help alleviate your discomfort. It may also be beneficial to consult with a pain management specialist. Remember, it's important to monitor your symptoms and communicate them to your healthcare provider, as persistent pain can sometimes be a sign of complications. However, in many cases, these sensations will gradually improve over time. I wish you the best of luck. I hope this answer helps. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen

Answer: Nerve pain and Vaser liposuction This is a great question. Unfortunately, the answer to this question is different for every body. For most patients, it can take multiple months for the nerve pain to subside. Keep in mind, when we do VASER liposuction, we are not cutting the nerves. However, with the aggressive nature of the liposuction and the VASER the nerves get very, very irritated. And unfortunately, it just takes time for the nerves to reset. Our patients routinely report symptoms resolving usually within about six months. However, I have also seen patients complain about these same nerve symptoms for over a year. Sometimes you can use medications like gabapentin to help with some of the pain. However, it usually will get better on its own. Hope this helps.
