When not actively working the farm, Dr. Summers could be found participating in any number of sports, playing in a woodshop, or spending time with family and friends. Following high school, Dr. Summers spent two years serving a church-related mission in beautiful Guatemala, where he would also become fluent in Spanish. This naturally led me into the pursuit of medicine, which is as dynamic as the human body.” Dr. Summers earned his medical degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, excelling in neuromuscular medicine. Learning how to heal with your hands is a vital part of what it takes to be a surgeon. While there, he served as President of the neuromuscular medicine chapter, representing the school at various national meetings. Following his medical school training. Dr. Summers moved to Long Island, NY, where he spent 5 years learning the art of general surgery. It was intense and comprehensive surgical training, including countless hours on the plastic and reconstructive surgical teams. Dr. Summers would come to be known for his compassion, leadership, and operative skills and would serve as a chief resident during his 5th year of training. His dedication to advancing surgical knowledge and patient care is evident through his published research on breast cancer and new innovations in breast cancer treatment. Dr. Summers also received special recognition for his outstanding service during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Dr. Summer was very pleasant to work with. He assisted Dr. Deal with my mommy makeover. He was very kind, knowledgeable and made me feel super comfortable before and after my procedure. I’m thrilled with my results and would do it again 100x over!
Yes, you should be able to see results by six months as the inflammation should be largely resolved by then. If your results aren't what you expected, I would recommend having a discussion about options and/or the surgery itself with your surgeon.
In general, it is always best to fix a diastasis when doing an umbilical hernia because the hernia will likely recur above where you had the hernia fixed. Many hernia experts also agree that fixing a diastasis, if present, is essential for a good, long term hernia repair.
This can be a complex case and every patient is different! This would be a great question to ask one on one with your surgeon to get an accurate answer for your specific needs.
I would recommend doing a combination of heating devices, both under the skin with Renuvion, and microneedling with radio frequency, like the Morpheus, on the outside of the skin. We do recommend three rounds of Morpheus to achieve the optimal result. However, if the skin is significantly loose, there is always a chance that it would be better to remove the skin. We have a lot of success using devices as mentioned above.
With VASER-assisted liposuction we rarely have to give a blood transfusion. Now, keep in mind, that there have been instances in VASER liposuction where transfusions have been required. In our practice to decrease this risk we have a couple of things that we do. First of all, we get a thorough set of labs before the surgery to make sure that your blood counts, electrolytes, bleeding numbers, etc. are normal. If you are anemic preoperatively, then you may need to do some measures such as taking iron to help increase your blood counts prior to surgery. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that she would not need a blood transfusion. However, in our practice, it is extremely rare that we need to provide a blood transfusion. Second, we do use a solution that contains medication’s to help decrease the chance that you have significant bleeding both in the tumescent solution (this is the solution that helps us do the liposuction) and we also give a medication IV. Hope this helps.
