Hello Nikki, thank you for your question and congratulation for your recent breast reduction. Different surgeons tend to provide different recommendations to their patients. On average I do advice mine to start massaging the scars with bio-oil after 6 week, once I have assessed the level of healing of the incision lines. Best advice would be to double check with your surgeon to make sure he/she agrees. All the best.Andrea Marando, MD, EboprasEuropean Board Certified Plastic and Cosmetic SurgeonCertification in Cosmetic Surgery Royal College of Surgeons 2018
In general, scarring is a product of genetics. Some people are good scar formers and others are poorer scar formers. There is no one best therapy for scars. Best to ask the board certified plastic surgeon who performed your BR for his/her advice. Silicone sheets, Mederma, and Biocorneum are reasonable and popular options. I recommend that the scar therapy begin after the scars have healed and there are no open areas, which usually takes 4 to 6 weeks.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
Thank you for your question.Every plastic surgery office has their own set of pre and post operative instructions that they recommend their patients follow. It is most important to follow the instructions of your surgeon.
Thank you for your question. You should leave the tape on until it falls off . The tape also helps with scarring and widening of scars. You can tear and irritate the skin by pulling it off too soon. Once the tape falls off you can then apply bio oil and massage the scars along the incision. Best of luck!
