Hello!Care of incisions after surgery varies greatly amongst plastic surgeons. In general if you surgeon felt that antibiotic ointment was needed s/he would have recommended its use. I would verify with your surgeon about what they recommend for your optimal healing. I personally use surgical paper tape on my incisions so antibiotic ointment wouldn't be indicated. Many surgeons use skin glue or steri-strips both of which would be contraindicated with ointment. Remember your plastic surgeon is your best resource and should be happy to help you with you recovery.Best of Luck with your healing!Dr. Rednam
Postoperative dressing preferences vary between surgeons. If you have Steri-Strips covering the incisions, there is no need to use any ointments. If you do not have anything covering the incisions, verify with your surgeon that these ointments are okay to use. I typically recommend that patients use these ointments for about 3-5 days to avoid skin irritation. Best of luck with your healing!
