Is it necessary to stop taking soma before having my breast implants removed under local?

I have chronic pain and other than daily pain meds I also take up to 3 soma a day.. I hope that getting my heavy 525cc implants removed helps relieve some of my pain.. I wrote all my meds down at my pre op apt and was only told to stop my 800mg ibuprofen rx but after reading all my paperwork I just saw it says soma on list of meds to stop? One website said to just not take the day of.. Confused and it's Saturday the office is closed, my surgery is this Thursday should I stop asap?!

Thank you for your question.  As always, please check with your surgeon regarding medication prior to your procedure.  The main concerns regarding elective surgeries are medications that contain anticoagulants such as aspirins.  All the best,Dr. ResultsMiami, FL

If the list says to stop Soma then I encourage you to stop it.  You can clarify the time frames with your surgeon's office the next time it opens.  It's important that your surgeon is aware of all medications you take including prescription, over the counter medications, and supplements.

No blood thinners should be taken for 2 weeks prior to surgery, it increases the chance of bleeding after the surgery.  This would include Soma.Good Luck!

I would suggest, that if paperwork states that you should stop the medication, then best to stop it now. Confirm with your plastic surgeon's office Monday. Best wishes  with your upcoming procedure.
