Answer: Ice Packs? Thank you very much for your question.I would ask your surgeon how they feel about ice packs, as surgeons have different opinions regarding whether or not they can be used. I do not recommend using ice packs for abdominoplasties, as the cold may cause the vessels to constrict down and cause blood flow problems to the abdominal skin (in theory, but I'd rather not test that theory). Best of luck!

Answer: Ice pack after tummy tuck Ice is generally recommended for acute injuries or pain and swelling in the first 24-48 hrs. I personally do not recommend ice packs for abdominoplasties for fear of causing skin necrosis of the abdominal skin flap. I think mild heat is more beneficial at this point in your postop period but be careful not to place a heating pad directly over the numb skin as it could also cause a severe skin injury.

Answer: Ice packs on tummy tuck after mommy makeover. After the tummy tuck, your abdomen will have areas of temporary and possible permanent sensation changes. Because of this, you will not know when the ice has been on the skin too long and this could lead to a cold (frost-bite like) injury. Therefore, do not use the ice packs.

Answer: Ice packs for a mommy makeover? Thank you for your question. Each surgeon has their own recommendations for patients during recovery and it would be advisable to reach out to them for guidance. The concern for icepacks after surgery, especially for a tummy tuck, is because of two main reasons. Firstly, the skin of your abdomen will be anesthetized from surgery and you will not be able to identify when your skin is getting too cold, potentially causing frostbite or other injury. Secondly, the cold temperatures will constrict the blood vessels of your stomach skin which will impair blood flow and possibly cause wound-healing difficulties such as incision separation. I think arnica and bromelain are excellent adjuncts.

Answer: Ice for mommy makeover Although ice is appropriate for some injuries and pain conditions, it is not good for post operative plastic surgery in most instances. Ice constricts blood vessels and can lead to frost bite types of injuries especially if the areas are numb from surgery. I only allow ice for breast augmentation, on 20 minutes off 20 minutes. I Never allow ice for Lipo, tummy tucks or lifts of any kind. Always ask your surgeon but generally don't use ice without their permission.
