5'2, 176 lbs - Should I lose all the excess weight before liposuction or get the surgery and lose the weight after?

Hello Everyone, I'm a young woman of 20-something and I want to get liposuction however I'm still overweight. I read that it is better to lose all the weight before going though with this surgery. I'm 5.2/158 cm and 176lbs/80kg, I'm planning to get a breast lift and get fillers in my hippies as well, do you think I should wait and lose all the excess weight or get the surgery and lose the weight afterwards ? Thank you !

Hi, thank you for sharing your question. Given your current BMI of 32, you may not need to lose weight for this specific surgery, however, it is always best to reach your goal weight before considering cosmetic surgery. Without a photo it is hard to know what can be achieved through surgery and whether it would be ideal for you.

generally speaking, you want to reach your goal weight before you consider a surgery, otherwise your results will be suboptimal if you continue to lose weight after the surgery. At 5'2 and 176 lbs, your BMI is 32. It is possible for you to undergo liposuction. Liposuction can safely remove 10 lbs during one session and the session can be repeated if needed. I recommend a low fat diet, core exercises such as sit-ups, planks, pilates and start wearing an abdominal binder.

Good day and thank you for your question. As a rule of thumb, it is generally better to lose the weight prior to surgery. You will have a much more significant result if you lose the weight beforehand. If you are getting fat injected into your hip areas, losing the weight after surgery might decrease the fat that was injected into those areas. Good luck with the rest of your journey!

It is best to attain your goal weight before having surgery.  Significant weight loss after your procedure could result in loose skin or alter your results.  Losing the weight first will also give your surgeon the opportunity to optimize your curves.

Neither of the surgeries you mentioned should ever be done until you are at your optimum weight. If you do the breast lift and lose weight, the breasts may droop again. Liposuction is a procedure to refine your body by correcting subtle fat irregularities when you are at a reasonable maintained weight. If you do the liposuction first, you may find you liposuctioned the wrong area or you, instead, need skin reduction surgery instead.
