Does Botox cause blindness like fillers?

In contrast to fillers, there is no known risk of blindness from Botox injection. The main eye complication of Botox is potential temporary drooping of the eyelid from its effect on the levator muscle of the eye.

botox does not cause blindness, however filler injections do come with a risk of causing blindness when injected into an artery during treatment. 

Botox which is considered an neuromodulator has never been associated with blindness.  Botox is completely different than dermal fillers.  In the case of dermal fillers, the blindness which is extremely rare was caused by injected the heavy molecule into the artery inadvertently which cause a blockage to the eye.  Botox is not a heavy molecule so it cannot block the artery.

Hi, thank you for your question. You don't have to worry about blindness when it comes to botox injections. Cases of diplopia (double vision) have been reported, but it is extremely rare and since it is due to leakage of botox into the orbit and not direct injection, diplopia lasts less than the expected 3-6 months duration of botox effects.
Fillers on the other hand can cause blindness and/or facial necrosis. Your physician should be very well trained in order to avoid injecting fillers into any major facial vessels in the treated area. Right choice of fillers, injection technique, diameter of needle or cannula used are some factors your physician should take into consideration in order to safely achieve the desired results.  

Hello and thank you for your question. Botox injections are not known to cause blindness. Botox is suspended in a saline solution. The injection technique and placement of Botox is typically very safe. Where as fillers are comprised of a viscous gel and if misplaced into a major facial vessel, has the ability to cause an occlusion which can lead to facial necrosis and/ or blindness if not corrected immediately.  Both of these treatments should be performed by a highly trained injector. 

In all my experience injecting Botox, I have never heard of it causing blindness.  Botox is made from a completely different substance than fillers, so they have very different side effects.  Botox and fillers are similar only in that they are both injectibles. Blindness is an extremely rare complication from fillers. A qualified medical provider should be prepared to deal with any complications of fillers, should they arise.

Filler are known to have caused blindness when injected around the nose area especially when injected quickly. Fillers are thick and if injected into an artery can cause problems whereas Botox is a liquid and if Botox were to be injected into an artery nothing would happen.
