When is it okay to go for a bike ride after a mommy makeover?

My husband and kids just cleaned up our bikes and got them all ready to go for the summer. They have been riding and I want to go with them so bad! Today is day 21 post op of my mommy makeover. I'm still a bit tight and a little sore but not to the point of not being able to walk around fairly comfortably. Is it safe to go for a bike ride? Or should I wait another week?

Congratulations on your mommy makeover! I restrict physical activity for 3 weeks post op then gradually let my patients return to exercise with the exception of abdominal exercises. I would check with you surgeon on his/her protocols. It's always best to return to activity slowly, let pain be your guide and listen to your body. Good luck and enjoy summer!

it sounds like you are healing nicely, just as expected. Unfortunately, it is
important that continue to give your body time to recuperate from this major
surgery. Avoid strenuous activities for at least four to six weeks from the
date of your surgery. Talk to your operating surgeon for his/her advice on
slowly adding activities and to get a green light on bicycling with your
family.

Thank you for your question. After a mommy makeover, patients can return to light activities almost immediately after surgery, normal activities 2 weeks after surgery, and exercise 4 weeks after surgery.  We usually experience a slow steady improvement for 3 months or so after surgery.  Every surgeon will have his/her own preferences as to recovery for specific procedures. Best is to discuss specifically with  your specific surgeon as he/she will have a better knowledge about your healing process.

The best advice I can offer is to ask the surgeon who performed your MM for his/her opinion. You don't mention exactly what surgeries were part of your make over but in general I think you should wait. I am sure your husband can do it! Best to wait until you've done light exercise before bike riding. Best of Luck.

Congratulations on your mommy makeover and a quick recovery! Hopefully you are enjoying your results. To answer your question, I typically have my patients wait 4-6 weeks before returning to any strenuous physical activity. You may feel good and think you are ready to go for a bike ride, but your body may not yet be totally healed, and you run the risk of injury or damaging your results. My best advice would be to talk to your surgeon and follow their recommendations to the letter. They are familiar with your surgeries and your medical history, and can give you a timeline to ensure that you are healed and ready to resume physical activities. Good luck!

It's wonderful that you are feeling so good after surgery, but it is probably best to wait 4-6 weeks after surgery before bike riding.  Maybe consider a nice walk in the park as an alternative.  Check with your surgeon regarding activities as he/she is most familiar with the details of your surgery and how you've been progressing through recovery.

It is awesome that you are doing well enough at only three weeks to want to consider to go bike riding. However, you are still a bit early to make this a prudent choice. That being said, you MUST discuss this with your plastic surgeon.
