19 year old girl who recently had an allergic reaction with caused my eyelids and under eye to puff up. Although the puffing went away, I am left with wrinkles on my top eye, crows feet, and a huge wrinkle on my bottom eye. It's been about one week after the reaction. I used to have only miniature wrinkles put the puffing made them form one huge wrinkle. Will it go away/back to original? Or should I look into laser resurfacing/creams/botox/blephplasty? If it is laser, which kind, CO2 or erbium?

Answer: Treating Under Eye Wrinkles with Allergies Hello and thank you for your question. I recommend getting your allergies under control to reduce the effect it will have on your under eye area. Loss of volume to the tear trough (under eye area) occurs with aging (decrease in fat pads, muscle, and bone) and can also be attributed to genetics. Fine lines tend to appear with repeated muscle movement and loss of skin elasticity and collagen. Fortunately, there are several non-surgical options to help treat this common area of concern. To address fine lines/crows feet (lines at the corners of your eyes when smiling or squinting), a small amount of botox can be injected into the obicularis oculi muscle to restrict your muscle movement and prevent the lines from becoming etched in. Resurfacing lasers (i.e. fraxel or Clear and Brilliant) can also help treat fine lines and stimulate your body's natural collagen production. For the sunken appearance to the tear trough, dermal fillers can be used to help replace volume. In my practice, I specifically prepare Juvederm for injection into the tear troughs. This preparation provides the most natural looking appearance and has a duration of 2 - 6 years. Most importantly, it can be easily dissolved with an enzyme, making it a safe option. In my office, this is a two stage procedure, with a touch-up visit 2-3 weeks after the initial one. Make sure to seek out an expert injector for your care. Best of luck!

Answer: Combination of Treatment for Undereye Wrinkles Hi azaidi, It is unlikely that the allergic reaction caused such a massive change. After all, you're only 19 and your skin is pliable. That said, a combination of therapies can be done and you could start with microneedling with PRP and laser. The Lumenis and Cutera do a good job. However, if the line isn't softened to your liking, then a natural-looking filler like Restylane Refyne can be used. You'd be happy to know that Refyne produces the least swelling. All the best, Justin Harper, M.D.
