Compression garments are not absolutely necessary after a tummy tuck. In fact, at 10 days, I never use them for my patients. Ask the plastic surgeon.
It is very common to get frustrated with the garment at this stage of the game. I recommend you wear a thick cotton t-shirt under it until you find something else you can tolerate. Your surgeon will absolutely have recommendations, but my office ladies who have had tummy tucks recommend a hook and eye corset from maidenform. Apparently they sell at JC Penney for about $35 and are dramatically more comfortable than our standard garments.Good Luck, You're Gunna Love It!!!
It's best to check with your surgeon to see what garments they would like you to wear. One option is to wear a lighter weight garment such as Spanx. You may find that they are more comfortable for long term where.
Plastic surgeons office can fit you with a user-friendly garment after abdominoplasty. There are lots that are available and are reasonably priced. Many of my patients prefer Spanx
We understand how frustrating the abdominal binder can be. Transitioning into a high waisted panty is usually more comfortable for our patients. We have suggested Spanx or similar in the past and experimented with different alternatives. One of our patients recommended Self Expressions by Maidenform and my patient coordinator found them at Target. The most important thing is that you continue to wear support and follow your surgeon's instructions. Best of luck to you!
Check with your surgeon, but any form of compression may well be satisfactory.. Many of my patients use Spanx or bicycle shorts by this stage in their recovery. All the best.
I would check with your plastic surgeons office. It is important that the garment fit well, has appropriate compression in the correct areas and will not be irritating to the skin or the incision.Good LuckStephen M. Davis, MD, FACSGreen Hills Plastic Surgery
There are a variety of manufacturers of compression garment that may offer a better fit. You should discuss this with your surgeon, to see what they want you to do, since they did your surgery.
For my patients who have difficulty wearing a post surgical compression garment, I suggest going to Spanx.com. Spanx has a wide variety of compression garments in multiple size which should be fine. Check with your surgeon first. Best wishes, Dr. Lepore
There are many alternatives. Garments and binders come in different brands, shapes and widths.Best is to check with your surgeon in terms of his aftercare protocol. Most surgeons recommend some form of compression for 4-6 weeks after tummy tuck surgery.
