How much weight to lose before Tummy Tuck? (photos)

i am 5ft 3 and weigh 175lbs (12 stone 4lbs). i want to be at my best BEFORE i have a tummy tuck, how much weight would be good to loose first? its hard to know whats just skin and what is fat.

You do not a pear to need to lose any weight before you have a tummy tuck.  You should have an excellent result.

It's not really necessary to achieve ideal body weight before abdominoplasty.  If you're heading there in a reasonable period of time, wait until the weight has been achieved. Otherwise, it's fine to go ahead.

There is no ideal weight for a tummy tuck procedure. The main thing is to make sure that you are at a long-term stable weight. If you're planning to lose weight in the future, then it's likely best to wait and tell you have reached the new weight to have a tummy tuck procedure.Additional weight loss will make it easier to remove excess skin, and allows your surgeon to tighten the abdominal wall further. Conversely, gaining weight after a tummy tuck procedure may stretch your skin and abdominal wall after they have been tightened.

It is best to be as close to your goal weight as possible prior to having a tummy tuck.  Usually within 5-10 pounds is what I suggest.  If, realistically, you don't think you will lose much more weight, then I say go ahead with surgery whenever you're ready to.  At your current weight, you will still see a nice change.  Good luck!

Thank you for your question.It is best to be at a stable weight that you can realistically maintain after surgery.  If you weight changes significantly, then this makes the results unpredictable.

To be sure, see two or more experienced,
board-certified Plastic Surgeons for a complete evaluation to make sure you are
a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have surgery.

You appear to be a very good candidate for a tummy tuck.   I am not sure how necessary weight loss is given lack of fullness in the upper abdomen.   Liposuction of the sides and back would further refine the result.  Look at

there is no “perfect” weight you should reach before scheduling a tummy tuck,
you should have already reached your personal target weight and maintained it
steadily for several months before considering surgery. If you still want to
lose a significant amount of weight, I recommend focusing on diet and exercise
for a while and then revisiting the topic of body contouring surgery later on,
once you’re at or near your goal. From your photos, you look like you could be
a good candidate for surgery right now, dependent upon a physical examination.

The best weight at which to have a tummy tuck is the weight
that you can reasonably expect to achieve and maintain. Someone who is actively
losing weight should consider waiting until their target goal is achieved. I
normally prefer not to perform a tummy tuck on a person who is realistically
going to lose 20 or more pounds. Losing this much weight after a tummy tuck
will “deflate” the stomach skin and result in additional skin laxity that could
have been eliminated if they were closer to their goal. Ideally, you would also
maintain this lower weight indefinitely after the surgery so that you can enjoy
the benefits of a tummy tuck as much as possible. Nevertheless, it is important
to be realistic about what your final weight can/will be. I have also had a significant
number of patients who after an abdominoplasty went on to lose a noticeable
amount of additional weight. They were inspired by the surgical results and
motivated to lose additional weight and keep it off.

For the best results seek the consultation of a plastic surgeon certified by the
American Board of Plastic Surgery. They have a website listing all the
certified plastic surgeons. Members of the American Society of Aesthetic
Plastic Surgery will all be board certified in plastic surgery and have
demonstrated an interest and competence in cosmetic plastic surgery as well.
