Can my ugly scarring from breast implants be fixed or could it get worse? (Photos)

Scar revisions are always an option. Although improvement cannot be guaranteed as they may be factors not controllable by your surgeon, the results are generally positive. Discuss options with your surgeon who will provide specific information on the risks and potential benefits. 

When faced with an unattractive or dysfunctional scar, one must first diagnose what the problem is and then develop a hypothesis to explain why the problem might have developed.  An assessment must then be made as to whether the problem is amenable to correction, and, if so, a decision must be made regarding which of the many treatment options available for scar revision is most appropriate for the specific clinical situation.  Schedule an in-office consult and exam with a board certified PS who can determine the best plan to address your scars.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Yes your scars can be revised and they should look much better. Talk to your surgeon about options. Most likely this could be done under local anesthesia.

Dear peachy4,at 18 months after surgery it is unlikely that your scars will improve significantly with time. If you want improvement, you might require scar revision. If you are considering a treatment, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon.  At 18 months after surgery it is unlikely that your scar is going to change in appearance or worsen. It is, however, unlikely to improve either. I agree that this is not an acceptable scar on a breast after an augmentation. Most likely, you will get a better outcome with surgical scar revision. This will require cutting out the current scar and revising it to hopefully have a thinner, less perceptible scar. Have a consultation with a different plastic surgeon to determine if this would be an option for you.

after 18 months the scar will not change significantly,  probably  the poor cosmetic outcome is due to the implants stretching the skin, so doing a scar revision I would say there are good chances the new scars will look better. Kind regards

The necessity for revision usually results from a superficial infection or early postoperative skin irritation at the surgical site, but adverse scarring may also occur for no apparent reason. Some individuals have a genetic tendency to make thick scars. In a vast majority of patients, scar revision will result in improvement of scar appearance.Seek reevaluation by your plastic surgeon.Best wishes...
