I had Botox in my chin and it resulted with a crooked mouth and a smile when I talk , I know that the Botox was not injected correctly and it stays only for 3 month but I'm scared because I had bell parsly 15 years ago so I'm afraid that the muscles are already weak and that i might have weakened them more with the Botox , my qoueestion is, is it safe to do Botox if you have a history of bell palsy ?

Answer: Botox and Bell's palsy Thank you for your question LNF81. I am sorry to hear about your situation. Botox is a purified protein used to address wrinkles associated with facial expression. It is important to understand that even if a Botox treatment is performed correctly, there is a risk that the product will spread to nearby muscles and relax those muscles as well. Botox can be used in the chin to address dimples that may appear there. If it spreads to adjacent muscles it can lead to a temporary asymmetric smile. Having a history of Bell's palsy is not a contraindication to receiving Botox. Please consult with a doctor for specific recommendations. Good luck!

Answer: Botox with Bell's Palsy Thank you for your question. Yes it is safe to administer Botox after Bell's Palsy, it just needs to be injected correctly to that area. You should consult with a oculofacial plastic surgeon for further treatments. Best of luck, Dr. Heffernan
