I am now 11 weeks post breast lift. He reduced the size of my areolas as well, but they are now long ovals and I'm not happy. He told me that they are cut in perfect circles and that they will become circular over time, as they settle. This doesn't make sense to me, because as time goes by and they "settle", I'm assuming the will become even more oval?? Regards, Michelle

Answer: Oval shapped areola after breast lift/reduction I understand your concern. However, the shape that the areolas take after surgery is often out of the control of the surgeon. Many factors including incision tension, breast size, skin quality, and type of incision used dictate how the areolas heal.My advice would be to wait at least 6 months. This will allow ample time for the breasts to heal and take on the appearance that they will most likely remain. Then, if you are dissatisfied, the nipples can be revised.

Answer: Oval Areolas While we all cut the Areolas to be a perfect circle in the OR, they do not always turn out that way. I have my patients wait at least 6 months to allow the tissues to heal and then will consider a small touch up in the office under local anesthesia.
