I have had these xanthalasmas for a while and they have hampered my self confidence immensely. How can I remove them? How many sittings and recovery time would go with the process? Is it covered through insurance?

these are cholesterol deposits and are best treated by surgical removal. This can be done in an office. There is a chance of more deposits in the future.

The best option is to have them surgically removed.  This can be done as an if office procedure.  Might be covered by insurance.  You may get more of these in the future, and sometimes they may recur in the same area.

Xanthelasma are cholesterol crystal deposits of the eyelids in the subcutaneous tissue. These appear as yellow plaque formations. Laser is the best treatment to evaporate these although the skin will be removed over the plaques.Some may require more than one treatment and it is possible for the patient to require treatment for recurrences. Interestingly the destruction of the overlying skin and lesions would appear to scar however this is proven to be minimal in most instances. In fact there may be some tightening of the tissue at the patient feels the laser treatment area.
