Is this normal healing after blepharoplasty? (Photo)

Question

I had my upper eyelids one 2 days ago. Does this swelling look normal. I also feel pressure in that eye. Called my doc but person answering phone just said swelling is normal.

Two days after surgery, the swelling present is still at its maximum, and has not begun to subside. It may vary in extent between the two eyes, with an eye occasionally swelling shut. As log as your vision is grossly normal, and you are not experiencing significant pain, you should not be overly concerned. Applying ice packs can be helpful until it begins to subside.

Swelling is to be expected post op for quite sometime. If you'd like to speed up healing I suggest adding Lightstim/red light therapy, hyperbaric oxygen chamber (discuss with you physician), and bromelain pills (arnika forte) to your post op care routine. Hi Parkhaha,Sorry to hear of your frustrations.  However, bruising and swelling is normal after the procedure, and everyone bruises/swells to different degrees.  From the photos you posted, I'm not seeing anything unusual, though your bruising may be more than average.That being said, if you are experiencing worsening pressure in the eye, blurry vision, or double vision, you would need urgent follow up with your surgeon.  If you are unable to see your surgeon, you may need to go to the emergency room.Best wishes on your healing,Dr. Jay

swelling and bruising of varying magnitudes can occur and your photos do not show anything concerning.  But if you're experiencing a diminishment of your visual acuity, you must see your surgeon now.

Hello parkhaha,Your bruising is just a bit more than usual but not uncommon. These things can happen after blepharoplasty. My suggestion is not to worry and give it 2-4 weeks to heal. You can then have that discussion with your surgeon about any concerns. It is very difficult to make decisions on outcome this early from the surgery. Hope this helps.Cheers

Eyelids are notorious for swelling and bruising and your photos are not unusual for 2 days post blepharoplasty. The swelling usually peaks around 2 to 3 days then start to resolve. Most of the swelling and bruising will take a few weeks to resolve and some residual bruising may be visible for 4 to 6 weeks under your eyes. Be patient and keep your follow up appointments with your surgeon.

Hello Parkhaha,It is very normal to have swelling and bruising after any surgery.  With upper eyelids there usually isn't much bruising and the swelling is usually not too bad, but everyone is different.  I would recommend you discuss this more with your doctor to ensure everything is going how he or she planned. I hope this helps and good luck.

Thank you for your question!  Bruising and swelling is very normal after eyelid surgery, and this actually gets worse in the first few days after surgery before it starts to improve.  However, if you are having pain or pressure, I would strongly recommend contacting your surgeon to discuss your concerns and possibly be seen in clinic to ensure proper healing.
