Will the lumps in my lips caused by Juvederm go away completely with time?

Lip filler bumps is fairly common after filler.  The bumps can occur early on and many settle down.  Although massage after filler is considered a mainstay, beware that massage can drive the filler into another location if done too early.  
Reasons for bumps after filler:
Technique- Filler may have been used too superficially or wrong type of filler
Mouth movements- In some patients their movements can promote the accumulation of bumps and an alternative technique can be advocated.
Treating lip filler bumps:
Observation +/- massage-  Should be done for almost all lip filler bumps for 2 weeks.  For our patients we usually advocated massage after 48-72 hours to let the filler settle into place.
Reversal- A reversal agent can be used such as Vitrase to dissolve the filler if there is a large obvious persistent bump
Additional filler- An expert filler injector can used improved technique to mask the lip bumps.
The application of lip filler is very technical and should be done by an expert injector.

Lumps and bumps usually resolve on their own, once the filler starts to get incorporated with your own skin tissue. It would be best if you book a follow up appointment with your injector in 1-2 weeks, and he/she can massage any residual lumps or bumps at that time. By that time swelling will have resolved as well 

Swelling and bumps after an injection can take 2 weeks to resolve. It doesn't hurt to schedule an appointment with your injector to have bumps massaged / softened and be assessed for hyaluronidase. Your lips should go back to how they were originally as the product is broken down over time.  

In general, lumps after treatment with Juvederm may be due to the following:1) Product is injected too superficially2) Improper technique was used 3) Swelling is presentIf there are still lumps present after 2 weeks, I would recommend following up with your provider. Thank you for your question. I recommend waiting another week and then having follow up visit with your injector for an evaluation. By two weeks all swelling should be resolved and the filler would have enough time to settle. If you require any touch ups this is appropriate time to have it done. Best of Luck!

Juvederm injections in the lips. It is usually temporary and might take
2-3 week to resolve. Once the swelling is resolved you should see your
injector. If there are still some bumps present you will be advised if
you should massage it or consider hyaluronidase to dissolve excess Juvederm.

I do hope you had Juvederm Ultra, which is perfect for lips, and not Juvederm Ultra Plus or Juvederm Voluma.  Using Juvederm or Beletero and injecting small amounts deeply in multiple areas generally prevents lumpiness.If you still have this problem in a week, please visit your injector.  he or she will likely massage gently or place a small amount of hyaluronidase in a few areas.  I doubt you would be charged for this.

I counsel my patients that swelling does not completely resolve after juvederm injections for 2 weeks. If you have visible lumps the product may have been injected too superficially ( which is best treated by hyaluronidase) or in an uneven fashion (which often responds well to massage). 

Yes the lumps will eventually go away. However, if you are not happy with the results I would suggest seeing your provider so he/she can further evaluate the area.
