My stomach feels like cardboard 2 weeks after liposuction. My surgeon says it's fibrosis. Will carbon dioxide injections help?

Fibrosis is the excess deposition of scar tissue. At two weeks this is biologically impossible. Swelling creates a rigidity which will subside over time. The best way to handle the healing area is to leave it alone.

You probably have normal firmness after abdominoplasty. If you had liposuction of some type you could have additional firmness from this. I would really steer clear of any treatment offered by a "massage place". Please stay with your surgeon's recommendations only.. You paid too much to ruin your result with non medical treatments. If it hurts it probably is not good for you!!

Hello Cloe, it is normal to feel it like that because of the healing process. From my perspective what helps the most is massages plus ultrasound, it works perfectly on my patients.Good luck. 

Firmness is common after liposuction. I have never heard of carbon dioxide injections for anything. Best to ask your surgeon.

Dear Cloe, Thank you for posting your interesting question. For the first 3-4 weeks after liposuction, the tissue is inflamed or swollen. This is part of the healing process. Inflammation has water and the cells that your body uses to heal the tissue. If you have limited activity and some compression, this usually improves significantly by week 4, when the skin and tissue soften. I would not let anyone inject you, particularly at a "massage place", because it will not help and may cause an infection. I rarely recommend massages after liposuction, because they are most often not required and the liposuctioned areas are sore at this point.I recommend that you see your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who performed your liposuction and have them examine you and make sure that you are healing properly and there is no hematoma, seroma or infection. Cloe,Relax.  You are only two weeks post liposuction.  It takes months for the swelling and lumps to disappear on their own without any outside treatments!  Massages do help it soften faster, but that is all.  The skin sensation rights itself as the nerves regenerate.  Stop obsessing and realize that the healing process will take its own course.Dr. T

Lumps,bumps,hardness can all be a part of a normal healing process from liposuction, that we know will take longer than your current recovery.?Carbon dioxide,now that's a new one to me and I have been at this for 30 years.I would beware of any treatments not recommended by an experienced board certified plastic surgeon.Well done massage however is fine ,as long as not causing pain.
