Question

the receptionist said to change my bra, and stop the cream. I have applied hydrocortizone cream twice a day for 7 days, but its still there (although much less severe), itching, and now the skin is peeling! Now The surgeon said I shouldn't stop the prescription cream, he thinks it was the bra but I'm afraid im allergic to the prescription cream, and the hydrocortisone is drying me out. should I start the prescription and maybe it will stop the peeling? Pix are from today 7 days from breakout

Hello,It looks like you have developed a little dermatitis on the breast skin. This can be because of an ointment, tape, cream, or even from a new bra. I agree with your physician, changing the bra and using a hydrocortisone cream is most appropriate. In fact, if the itching and redness is much less severe, then the treatment is working! If you’re concerned at all, stopping everything altogether is also a good option. Simply clean your breasts and incisions gently every day with soap and water and pat dry with a clean towel. I generally have my patients use one towel for their body and a clean new hand towel each time they dry their breasts. The dermatitis should get better on its own. Usually takes about 2-3 weeks.
