Hi I'm considering a breast lift and I saw dr hordenskis procedure for the mini breast lift and I can't help but wonder why is he the only one performing it? Is it not safe?
Answer: Scar-less breast lift Dr Hordenskis either performes a lift with an incision only around the areola or around the areola along with one along the crease. The first type is quite often performed by almost all surgeons, The second type, with the horizontal incision, is rarely recommended. The reason is two fold. Firstly, if one had to pick between a vertical incision and a horizontal one, most surgeons would recommend the vertical. The vertical incision usually heals extremely well, while the horizontal incision too frequently heals poorly. Secondly, the shape of a lifted breast without the vertical is less than ideal in that it lacks projection as seen on side view.Ary Krau MD FACS

Answer: There is no such thing as a scarless breast lift Check out the length of the horizontal incision as well as the boxy shape of the breasts when a vertical component is not part of the mastopexy.

Answer: Breast lifts without scars? Not quite for the vast majority of patients seeking correction of drooping breasts. Most breasts that droop have too much an envelope of skin that needs to be reduced - and no technique can do this without scars. As plastic surgeons, scars can be hidden in creases and in the areolar border and with silicone scar treatment, good surgical technique and sometimes laser manipulation, lifts and their scars are excellent. This doctor is wrongfully marketing a scarless lift that actually has scars, just well hidden and placed. Some minor breast droop is corrected with implants (even more so with shaped breast implants) and sometimes an internal lift can help overcome minor droopiness in conjunction with an augmentation - but this as well requires an incision for the implant which is also a very negligible and difficult scar to see after several months of healing.

Answer: Why are other doctors not performing scarless breast lifts? Is it not safe? I perform these lifts as well, but you will have a scar around the areola or around the areola and underneath the breast.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA

Answer: Scarless Breast Lift? Thank you for your question. It is an excellent one and deserves some discussion. I have been in practice for 22 years and over those years I have has many ideas for what I thought were a new and better way to do a procedure only to find out that it had been described before. I have looked at Dr Horndeski's website and what I can tell you is that first of all his "Ultimate Breast Lift" is not "scarless". As Dr Lepore noted it does have a long scar along the infra mammary fold as well as around the areola. This technique is nothing new as it has been described before for breast reduction. It simply avoids the scar from the areola to the fold. It is only going to work on certain breasts, those with a low enough nipple that allow the skin above the areola to be draped over the lifted breast tissue. (I just did one of these last week). The potential problem with this procedure is that the long infra mammary scar is the one that in some patients is more prone to becoming hypertrophic (thickened). It is otherwise a good technique to use in the appropriate patients regardless of the name that it is given. His description of the "Mini Ultimate Breast Lift" is a variation of a Benelli, or circumareolar, breast lift. Again, it is not "scarless" as it does result in a scar around the areola. As he notes in his description, it is appropriate for smaller breasts without a lot if sagging. So in answer to your question there are plenty of plastic surgeons performing these procedures here in California. You shouldn't need to fly to Houston to have the surgery done. Wouldn't you rather have your surgery done locally so that your follow up will be more convenient and in the event of a complication you will be able to have your own surgeon deal with it? You should be able to find a plastic surgeon who is certified by the American Board if Plastic Surgery and also preferably a member of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and The California Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr Lepore, for example, is just over the hill from you. (He's not "over the hill" yet, though.). I hope this has been helpful to you.
