MRI shows possible deviated septum? (Photo)

Question

Hi there, I recently had an MRI for an unrelated issue, and it seems to confirm what I suspected about my nose in that I have a deviated septum? I have issues with whistling in my nose however it comes and goes. Should I consider seeking confirmation of this and treatment? Many thanks!

When somebody has a deviated nasal septum to the right, the number one complaint is difficulty breathing through the right side of the nose. If you breathe well through the right side of your nose, there may not be a medical necessity to treat this. I hope this helps! Sincerely, Dr Joseph

I would go see a board-certified plastic surgeon (with plastic surgery residency and aesthetic fellowship training) for a consultation. This view of the nose alone from an MRI is not the preferred way to evaluate a nose. I highly recommend always seeing someone in person for a real physical exam.

Yes you could seek a consultation to discuss your concerns. sSeptoplasty surgery is usually recommended when patients have symptoms or issues with nasal breathing. With a deviated septum, it is necessary to perform Septorhinoplasty surgery, where your nose shape can be changed if you wish.

You've got a very significantly deviated septum with obstruction of your airway.  It's surprising that your symptoms are not more significant.  A septoplasty procedure would certainly help your breathing and probably improve the appearance of your nose.  Good luck!

To some degree all individuals have some deviation of their septum. The human face is never symmetrical, and deviation is really only an issue if it is causing symptoms.
If this is bothering you that I suggested getting an evaluation by an ENT surgeon in your community.
 ENT or otorhinolaryngology is now sometimes referred to as had a neck surgery.
