Can I have breast augmentation surgery while being a peritoneal dialysis patient? (Photo)

Question

I'm a dialysis patient. Been on peritoneal dialysis for 4 years. I've wanted breast augmentation surgery for longer than that. Is it possible for me? I'm overall healthy despite my ESRD. How long would recovery be for me? I'm like an A/B cup but they are saggy. I only want to be a full C cup.

Dear patient34,as long as you get a clearance from your nephrologist, you might be a candidate for a surgery. it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Provided you are cleared by your nephrologist and dialysis is coordinated before and after surgery, breast augmentation should be ok. (We have treated similar patients - recovery should be uneventful).Breast augmentation should provide fullness. I would discuss your desires with you primary care physician and nephrologist first to be sure they feel you are healthy enough for elective surgery. Assuming that’s true, there should be no major contraindication to breast augmentation surgery. You may be at higher risk for complications with surgery such as infection, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it. I would see a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options. I understand your desire for implants but this question should be addressed to your nephrologist.  General anesthesia is required as well as pain medication so there is a medical safety issue involved here.  Your doctor would have to clear you for surgery for it even to be considered so I recommend focusing on a discussion with him or her.  Best wishes.
