Lots of bleeding 10 days post Rhinoplasty. Any suggestions?

You definitely need to stop the Excedrin immediately as well as any other blood thinners such as Aleve, Motrin, Advil, and Bayer aspirin.  Even one baby aspirin has drastic anti-coagulant properties and this is likely the reason for your profuse bleeding.  Unfortunately, your blood will remain thinned for a few weeks following your Exedrin intake.  Switch to Tylenol or prescription migraine medication (sumatripan) if you have some.  Ten days post op is much too soon to start taking aspirin.  Follow up closely with your surgeon.

Using excedrin will only increase your bleeding. Also when you sneeze you should try to sneeze through your mouth. The Afrin will help temporarily but use sparingly. Definitely follow up with your surgeon.

Yes, the sneezing and Excedrin contributed to the bleeding. As other posts have commented I would discontinue the Afrin and refrain from sneezing or nose blowing. I would also use saline nasal sprays with Vaseline ointment to keep the nose moist.

Dear MayaThe Excedrin certainly contributed to your bleeding. At this time take no more aspirin containing or NSAID medications, do no straining, lifting or bending and keep your head elevated at night. Good luck

Excedrin has probably made the bleeding worst. But sometimes bleeding can happen if the incision gets irritated or from the septum. It is important to know the location of the bleeding.

Your bleeding is likely caused by the Excedrin which thins your blood. This medication should have been avoided for at least two weeks prior to and after surgery. 

Dear maya.m, I personally would never okay my patient to take Excedrin ten days post rhinoplasty surgery due to the the blood thinning properties the medication contains. My patients are informed to not take any medications of this nature for three weeks post surgery. For patients who suffer from migraines we arrange other medications ahead of time that can be taken to avoid this scenario. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
