Can anyone explain why I now have a musty odor after the Miradry procedure? This odor doesn't go away even after a bath.

Miradry effectively kills sweat AND odor glands which reside within mm of eachother under the skin. Typically, only 1 treatment is needed. I would give it about 3 months before you have a follow up with your healthcare provider and at that time, he/she can perform a starch iodine test to evaluate how many (if any) glands remain. Good luck to you, and be well

My guess is that your additional smell must be coming from some other part of your body. Perhaps a roll of skin under the breasts and/or bra rolls. I suggest you be examined by a physician.Best wishes, Dr. ALDO

Thank you for your question.It can take up to 12 weeks for everything to settle after the MiraDry procedure, if this is still a problem after then it may be worth discussing it with your practitioner.

A small number of patients report an increase in odor or change in odor for a few weeks to a few months after a miraDry treatment.  It usually resolves on its own, but if it doesn't, you could consider a second miraDry treatment after about 3 months once all other swelling or nodules resolve.  

Hi there and thanks for your question, We have had some patients say there is a change in odor after the first treatment. You must wait the 3 months before considering a 2nd treatment, but if its still there, then you may want to consider a 2nd treatment. The patients we have had experiencing something similar, it has resolved with an additional treatment. I had the treatment and have no need for deodorant at all anymore. Its been life changing. Some of the oder is from oily glands.Other causes for odor is excess moisture causing bacterial overgrowth.Once eccrine sweat was eliminated by miraDry, the type of bacterial overgrowth changed as well as the characteristic odor from the bacterial digestion of glandular oils, causing you to perceive a different type of odor. There are 3 types of sweat glands and you have been treated for 1, i.e., elimination of eccrine glands. H Karamanoukian MD FACSCenter for Excessive Sweating, established in 1999

All procedures have potential side effects. This one is not something I heard of so it may be worth going in for a follow up exam.

After a miraDry treatment, it takes up to 3 months for symptoms such as odor to resolve. If after 3 months, odor is still present, it is best that you see your physician for a follow up to check if a second treatment may be necessary. If the odor is that bothersome, you may want to be seen by your physician for an evaluation sooner to ensure that nothing else may be contributing to the odor.
