I’m trying to figure out if I have gynecomastia or just chest fat. I’m a 35 year old male. If I do have gyno, I’m curious how serious my case is and if losing body fat could at all help or if I should have gynecomstia surgery.
Answer: Gynecomastia Like most cases of gynecomastia, you would likely benefit from liposuction with careful gland excision and fat advancement flaps to maximize your contour. I would also suggest liposuction of front bra rolls (side breast/chest area) to maximize your contour.

Answer: What is causing excess breast tissue Every male has a glandular bud. If you are experiencing excess tissue in the area it could be from weight gain. A lot of times even when men lose weight and are in great shape, they can still present excess tissue in the breast area. Seeking guidance from a professional at an in person consultation would be the best option. If you are unsure and let's say comfortable with the weight you are at, you could always elect to have the Gynecomastia surgery just to remove the bud or excess tissue regardless.

Answer: Gynecomastia Hi- thank you for your question. You do have some chest fat and possibly gland (would require an examination) that could be removed to improve the chest contour. Exercise in terms of body fat lowering would help. Gland is not going to be exercised away. Best to speak to a board certified plastic surgeon.

Answer: Mild gynecomastia Dear EVV505, Thank you for your pictures. You look fairly fit. Certainly losing body fat will change to contour your chest. In my opinion, I do believe you have a mild form of gynecomastia. This most likely represents a type 2 gynecomastia. The most appropriate step is to get an evaluation from several board certified plastic surgeons. Best wishes! Earl Stephenson Jr, MD, DDS, MBA ESJ Aesthetics #Truth, and transformation.

Answer: Gynecomastia or Chest Fat Thank you for your question regarding the difference between gynecomastia and chest fat. Based on the photos you provided, it does not appear that you have true gynecomastia, which is the enlargement of breast tissue in males. Instead, it looks like you have excess chest fat, which can be addressed through various methods. To reduce chest fat, you have a few options: Exercise and Healthy Eating: Incorporating a regular exercise routine that includes both cardiovascular and strength training exercises can help you reduce overall body fat, including chest fat. Pairing this with a balanced diet rich in whole foods, lean proteins, and healthy fats can further support your weight loss efforts. Weight Loss Medications: New weight loss medications can also be an option to help you shed excess fat. These should be discussed with and prescribed by a healthcare professional to ensure they are safe and appropriate for you. Liposuction: If you prefer a quicker solution, liposuction can be an effective method to remove stubborn fat from the chest area. This procedure involves a plastic surgeon removing fat deposits through small incisions, resulting in a more contoured and masculine chest appearance. I recommend consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon or a healthcare provider to discuss your options in more detail. They can provide you with a personalized assessment and guide you on the best course of action based on your specific needs and goals. Sincerely, J. Timothy Katzen, MD, FASMBS, FICS Plastic Surgeon
