Is it possible for your body to reject silicone on the nose, but not the breast?

Question

I got silicone in my nose 15yrs ago and got infection and doctor remove it right away, but as for my breast I been having my silicone implant for 11yrs now. Is it possible for the body to actully do this? I am asking this becuse I wanted to give my nose another try, but I don’t know what to use for my bridge because silicone on the nose is more define then using Autologous tissue. I really don’t want to have another infection with my nose if I decided on silione. Please help thank you.

Thanks for this question.  It is an important one. Silicone implants in the nose have a higher rate of exchange. This rate of extrusion does not seem to correlate to other parts of the body. I would advise against getting another silicone implant in your nose. Using cartilage from your own body is much safer and better option. I advise seeking out an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon for advice.

The reason your silicone implant in your nose was rejected is that it got infected.  Obviously this didn't happen with your breasts.  Augmentation of the dorsum of your nose can be attempted with another silicone implant, but is a risky proposition. Adequate soft tissue coverage and meticulous closure with the use of post operative antibiotics are crucial if you choose this route.  Use of rib cartilage tends to be incorporated better as it is your own tissue but does have donor site morbidity, and can twist after surgery.

Thank you for the question and there is a higher infection fate associated with silicone implants used for dorsal augmentation in the nose but rib or septal cartilage should give just as good a result.  So go on some complimentary consultations with experts and compare recommendations and become informed about the desired procedure Dr Corbin

Dear swthelen, I would advise against getting another silicone implant in the nose. I would suggest that you seek consultations with some expert surgeons and discuss your options using septal or rib cartilage grafts. There is no correlation between the silicone breast implants and the silicone dorsal implant as far as rate of extrusion goes.
