Will I be able to do homework/essays directly after a rhinoplasty?

After open rhinoplasty it is advisable to rest for 5-7 days after surgery. We advise to avoid strenuous exercise for 3 weeks after surgery to avoid swelling. However, if you’re not requiring narcotic pain medication or sedatives you should be able to complete normal, non-physical tasks. 

Depending on how you tolerate general anesthesia and the surgery overall, it can be possible to work on essays and assignments soon after surgery. But to be safe, it can be recommended to make your arrangements in a manner that they would not be required to be done within the first 1-2 days after the surgery.

Nice of your teachers to cut you a break.  You really should be able to get back yo doing assignments in as few as three or four days.  You will likely still have a bandage on and swelling in your eyes,  but you’ll be able to get some work done.

Yes, you will be able to perform your homework after rhinoplasty. Keep in mind, the skin, bone and cartilage are all traumatized during surgery. Inflammation (swelling) is the normal response and will help your nose to heal and look beautiful in the end. Swelling will gradually resolve over several weeks and it can take up to a year for final results. Hope this helps.

          In my experience, both as surgeon and as a patient when I had my rhinoplasty, patients are generally quite fit to get back to studying, including writing essays, within two days after surgery.  Today’s anesthesia is light with quick wakeup and little grogginess on the day of surgery.  I felt quite good the day after my surgery and had no impairment mentally at all, and most people will tell you the same thing.  Think of it in those terms.  It is not a matter of days or weeks.  It is just one or two days and you are ready to go.  Since it is not physically strenuous activity, there is no reason why you cannot return back to the books 100%.

It is possible to do homework right after your rhinoplasty. If you take narcotic medications, then you may not be able to focus however. Tylenol can work as long as that is enough to keep you comfortable. The main distractors from you being able to do your homework is a stuffy nose and discomfort.  In our practice, we perform rhinoplasty under general anesthesia, so patients will have a bit of a hangover the day or two after the procedure. Most patients take a few medium strength narcotic pain pills due to the congestion, headache and burning sensation that is felt after the procedure. Some patients are able to get through the recovery  with only Tylenol. It's important to make sure your nose is not packed after the surgery which can be rather painful. Your concentration for doing homework can be rather limited the first week after the surgery
