Do I need more surgical glue applied? (Photo)

Question

My surgery was 12/15/15 and my PS used surgical glue to seal my incision today I am 6 days post op and the glue is starting to flake away. I'm concerned bc I wouldn't want my wound to bust open. Is this normal this early in? I seen on others post they said 2-3 weeks it would start peeling off. So my question is should I call my PS to have more glue added to my incision to protect it? I'm not pickin at it, this is happening by itself.

Based on your photos, you look to be healing well. I would let your surgeon know what is going on just to be safe, but no, you don't need more glue. Best, Dr. Nazarian

Obviously it is most appropriate to reach out to your surgeon to relay your concerns.  It appears from your picture that you are healing appropriately.  Often the glue is a redundant closure method meaning that it is placed over an incision that is already closed by suture.  Follow the guidance of your surgeon and good luck on a smooth recovery!

Depending on your body and the amount of glue applied, the glue may stay on for 1 week or up to 4 weeks.  You can follow up with your plastic surgeon so that he/she can examine your incision.  However, reapplying of the glue will not be necessary.Good luck with your recovery.

Surgical glue is normally used more as a way to seal the wound immediately after the procedure than as a suture in itself. It looks like your wound is healing well, and it is normal for the glue to peel off after few days.
