I agree with my fellow colleagues here on your question,it would be best to rely upon the direct response of your own surgeon as to thelength of time to sleep on your back after surgery as they will know thedetails of your procedure and all of the pre-op details that the two of youdiscussed in regards to goals of your results. Sleeping on your side can beallowed early in the recovery process, but remember that the skin needs to healcompletely before attempting to sleep on your stomach as that would causeproblems with the sutures and scars.
Typically, I advise my patients to sleep on their backs for at least 2 weeks after their tummy tuck. However, every surgeon has his or her own post op protocol so consult with your surgeon. Best, Dr. Nazarian
Thank for your inquiry, but each surgeon has their own protocol based on the technique they used on you. Please ask your surgeon, but in general it should be on your side by 6 weeks and on your belly soon after if everything has healed well.
For about 2 weeks with your hips and knees slightly flexed (pillow under knees). Then in theory, you can lie on your side for the next 2 weeks. You may see more swelling on the side you are resting on. By 6 weeks, you should be relatively comfortable but i would advise not lying on your front for 3 months.
Although the timing to sleep on your back after tummy tuck varies greatly from surgeon to surgeon, it is important to prevent tension on the incision for a reasonable amount of time to ensure proper healing. That "reasonable amount of time" should be discussed with your plastic surgeon. Sometimes you I'll be allowed to sleep on your side early during the recovery process. Touch base with your plastic surgeon for finals recommendations.
Thank you for your question. The answer to your question is surgeon-specific. I allow patient to sleep on their back or sides right after surgery. Sleeping on the belly is not allowed until the skin and tissue has relaxed sufficiently or to the point where standing fully upright or laying completely flat is possible. Discuss postop instructions with your surgeon. Hope this helps!
Dear mtd831, Thank you for your clinical post and this is a common question. Certified plastic surgeons are divided as to performing tummy tuck with adjunctive and additional procedures. One school of thought is that abdominoplasty with muscle plication, umbilicoplasty (belly button...
I would have to say that tummy tuck procedures are always self-pay, even though there may be as much as 1% of cases where the surgeon can find a reason for medical need that can be submitted to the patient’s insurance. But, like the others said, be careful if you are told that it may be c...
Incisions are typically sealed in 24-48 hours allowing them to get wet in the shower. Incisions are usually healed enough in two weeks to begin applying scar cream. The incision/scar usually has 50% of its ultimate strength by 6 weeks allowing for most activities to resume. You...
