I would have to say that tummy tuck procedures are always self-pay, even though there may be as much as 1% of cases where the surgeon can find a reason for medical need that can be submitted to the patient’s insurance. But, like the others said, be careful if you are told that it may be covered since the insurance company can deny it.
No. Insurance companies do not cover tummy tuck surgeries no matter the incision. It is always considered a cosmetic procedure. Best, Dr. Nazarian
In some situations a surgeon can highlight a medical need - such as chronic skin infections - for panniculectomy. In most cases, however, it is considered cosmetic in nature and not covered by insurance. Seek out a board-certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options. Good luck!
Insurance may cover panniculectomy in certain instances. Kenneth Hughes, MDBeverly Hills, CA............
Insurance does not cover tummy tucks as they are considered cosmetic in nature. It doesnt matter what the technique is --- this is a self pay operation. If a physician guarantees it will be covered, be wary, I have been doing this over 30 years ---- it is not a covered operation.
No insurance will cover this procedure. The only procedure covered, and rarely, is panniculectomy when rashes have been refractory to systemic antibiotic treatment. It may be different in other parts of the country, but the NY insurers perceive these procedures as cosmetically motivated.

A consultation with a plastic surgeon can sort out the possibilities.

Thank you for your question. I think that this is often a confusing point for many patients who elect to have a tummy tuck. Some surgeons use these terms interchangeably, but there are some significant differences between abdominal binders and compression garments. Abdominal binders are ge...
Thanks for your question. It would be helpful to know what the two "failed" MRs mean. How was muscle repair performed from BB to below rib cage? A midline incision? I am concerned with how different your two consults were. Might be worth finding an experience board certified PS or getting a CT...
Assuming that you don't have any health issues, you can book your consultation for the earliest time that you surgeon has availability. Best, Dr. Nazarian
It's too early to determine scar location at this point. Best to give your body adequate time to heal to allow the swelling to resolve so you can see your final results. As always, maintain an open discussion with your operating surgeon so you both are on the same page. Good luck!
Yes, it is ok to wear a panty girdle or underwear under your compression garment as long as it does not make the garment too tight so that it cuts off your circulation. Best, Dr. Nazarian
